Given careful support and time to adjust, a dog that possesses good genetic instincts often turns into a good farm guardian and perhaps even a good fulltime livestock guardian as well. Our livestock guardian dogs are of maremma and colorado mountain livestock dog breeds. Naturally suited through their heritage to protect livestock, they are also well suited for small acreage farms filled with diverse animals, as well as farms that have small children either as visitors or family members.
This group was created to support, give training advice and assistance and rescue support when needed for working livestock guardian dogs. We are here to help educate and mentor the owners of these fabulous dogs. We are also here when needed to help train, support, and rescue the fabulous working livestock guardian dogs. Large, rugged and impressive, they possess great endurance and agility.
These dogs are tall and powerful, yet not massive in build.
This magnificent ancient working dog presents an impression of functional utility without exaggerated features. Two of our permanent pack are outstanding mentor dogs and assist in the rehabilitation and training of rescue lgd. By working with a select few 501(c)3 rescue organizations, we are able to provide shelter, training, and placement for livestock guardian dogs on a case by case basis. Working lgd rescue & sanctuary provides livestock guardian dogs in need the time to find their ideal situation with the primary goal of protecting the working future of lgds with livestock guarding experience.

Silk road rare livestock guardian dog breed rescue does not import dogs as there are already too many in north america needing help, nor do we support any breeding program that is not by ethical breeders looking to conserve and advance the breed, which unfortunately isn’t a common thing in these breeds.

In the past i have worked as a dog trainer, and i have had multiple experiences rehabilitating dogs. When i started to work with livestock guardian dog (lgd) breeds i really connected with and understood them.
