In the spring of 1973, brady mullinax championed getting the honey bee as the state insect of north carolina. In september 1975, kernersville celebrated its first honeybee festival in honor of the work brady did. The kernersville honeybee festival consists of over 80+ vendors and attracts well over 10,000 spectators. The festival will be held on its traditional day, world honey bee day which is the third saturday in august.

Jim carriker, and beverly everette brought up the idea of a festival celebrating brady’s accomplishments as a town employee and a citizen. It was fitting that the festival be called the kernersville honeybee festival.
